December Club News

A severely under strength Verwood paid the price losing heavily to Oakmedians on Saturday 23rd December. See  Results

Verwood lost narrowly to Puddletown at home on Saturday 16th December 15-25. Despite fielding a makeshift front row, Verwood led 10-8 at half-time. The lead would have been 10-3 but for Verwood failing to clear their lines on the stroke of half-time. Verwood had scored through Tim Wynn following a quick tap penalty. Wynn forced his way to the line from 15 metres out. Garry Maidment scored the second after a darting run from a ruck.

This is how the score remained until the final quarter. Puddletown remained camped in the Verwood 22, and finally scored - 10-13

Verwood regained the lead soon after. This was an opportunist try from Garry Maidment. Darting blind from a maul, and stepping Puddletowns right wing he ran in from 30 metres out.

With 5 miutes remaining, Verwood led 15-8. Verwood's deserved victory was not to be. Puddletown scored  in the last 2mintes of the match and a further try followed in injury after Verwood lost possession after desperately trying to run the ball from their own line.

Verwood lost their first game of the Season against Lychett Minster on Saturday 45 - 0. Although a disappointing start to the season, there were a number of positive aspects to the game. At half time the score line was 12-0, and should have been 12-3 but for Andy Hoggins missing a relatively easy penalty kick in front of the posts. There were also a number of absentees due to holiday or other commitments.
